Read the Bible with a Friend: A First-Session Discussion Kit
Choose one short passage, agree on a translation and an approximate stopping time, read it before discussing it, and let either person skip a personal question. A useful first session can end with one observation, one unresolved question, and a freely chosen next reading.
Study guidance · not Scripture. AI-assisted writing and automated content review; no individual pastoral endorsement is claimed.

Before you meet
Agree on the passage, time, and privacy boundary
Choose a passage short enough to read twice. Decide whether you will read silently or aloud and whether either person wants to use audio. State that private experience, prayer, and personal history are optional topics.
This kit is an original suggested structure, not a tested curriculum, church small-group program, or promise that two readers will reach the same interpretation.
A sample flow is four minutes to read, six minutes to name details, six minutes to ask questions, and four minutes to choose what comes next. Adjust or stop when needed; the numbers are planning aids, not a spiritual requirement.
Take turns facilitating. The facilitator protects the passage boundary and the agreed time; that role does not confer pastoral or doctrinal authority.
Observation first, interpretation second, response by choice
The first two cards stay close to the text, the next two identify questions, and the final two invite an optional response. A reader may pass without explaining why.
Write private notes separately. Bibleward has no shared notebook, group sync, or facilitator dashboard.
Handle disagreement without forcing disclosure or agreement
Return to the words and boundaries both readers can check. State an interpretation as an interpretation, identify its source, and preserve an unresolved question when the evidence is incomplete.
For consequential pastoral, doctrinal, medical, legal, or safety concerns, this worksheet is not enough. Seek an appropriate trusted person or qualified professional rather than making the other reader carry a role they did not accept.
