Reading orientation
Make three columns
Label each item as text, navigation, or interpretation. Copying a heading into quotation marks can make an editor’s summary look like a sentence from the passage; keeping columns separate prevents that.

Text observation
Read across a heading
Read the final lines before a heading and the first lines after it. A heading may be helpful, but the passage’s transition is what you must observe. Chapter numbers are useful for citation even when they interrupt a continuous reading experience.

Original practice
Compare display purposes
A study layout may keep verse numbers and notes visible. A reader edition may reduce visual interruptions for sustained reading. Those are display choices, not proof that one layout changes the meaning of Scripture.

Context check
Correct four confusions
For each example, identify whether it is a heading, verse number, cross-reference, or passage wording. Then rewrite the sentence with only the words that belong in a quotation. Use the answer card to show your reason.
