Read Repeated Words Without Turning Them Into a Secret Code

Mark 4:35–41 gives a compact storm scene in which you can mark repeated questions, actions, and contrasts without claiming that an English repetition proves an original-language pattern.

Begin with visible words

Read the passage once without counting anything. On a second pass, mark repeated actions, questions, and words in the translation you named. Write the verse number beside every mark so an impression can be checked later.

This is an observation exercise in one English edition. It does not claim to calculate Hebrew or Greek frequency.

Separate three kinds of repetition

Place repeated wording, same-meaning rephrasing, and translation variation in separate columns. A repeated English word may reflect a translator’s choice; a similar action may be present even when the wording changes.

The useful question is what the passage actually repeats or develops, not whether every repeated sound hides a code.

Build evidence before explanation

Make three columns: evidence, possible explanation, and unknown. For Mark 4, the disciples’ question, Jesus’ action, and the final question can be listed with verses before you decide what the scene means.

An explanation is stronger when another reader can find the same evidence and see where uncertainty remains.

Transfer the method

Try the blank card on a new paragraph. Require yourself to cite two verse numbers and write one counterexample or unresolved detail. Repetition can guide attention without becoming a prediction or secret message.

Keep personal application after the observation and interpretation columns are complete.
