Day 36 · Deuteronomy 6:4–9 · Berean Standard Bible
Love the Lord with your whole life
The Shema joins confession and practice. Israel is to hear that the LORD alone is God and to love God with an undivided life, carrying the words into ordinary routines and across generations. Household teaching is patient formation, not coercive control. Jesus quotes the Shema when naming the greatest commandment. Christians confess the one God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but Trinitarian doctrine is later Christian theological reception and should not be inserted as the plain wording of Deuteronomy.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One.
5 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
6 These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts.
7 And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
8 Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
