Lectionary Entry Card: Complete Practice Worksheet
Use your browser’s Print command to print or save as PDF. This worksheet works offline after download; external sources need a connection. Read the companion guide
Original Bibleward study guidance. This worksheet explains a reading method; it is not a Mass reading sheet or an official religious calendar. For the United States Catholic system described in the companion guide, verify the date, celebration and cycle against the applicable official calendar. Other traditions require their own calendar.
A filled fictional card
Our invented sheet reads: Practice session; cycle not supplied; Gospel: Mark 1:9–11, 14–15; supplied introduction: At that time. It is deliberately fictional and is not assigned to any real worship service.
| Field | Filled answer |
|---|---|
| Source / date / occasion | Original fictional practice sheet / no real date / practice only |
| Cycle | Not supplied; do not guess from a chapter or Gospel name |
| Biblical book | Mark |
| Selected ranges | Chapter 1, verses 9–11 and 14–15 |
| Selected verse numbers | 9, 10, 11, 14, 15 |
| Internal gap | Chapter 1, verses 12–13 |
| Supplied introduction | The invented sheet's introductory phrase is not being presented as the exact beginning of Mark 1:9. |
| Context reading | Mark 1:1–20; compare preparation, baptism, wilderness, proclamation and the calling of disciples. |
| One observation | The two selected ranges have wilderness material between them in the full chapter. |
| A question to retain | What movement becomes clearer when I read verses 12–13 too? |
Three locating exercises
Use a complete Bible. Each reference below is a teaching exercise, not a calendar assignment. Write your answer before moving to the answer section.
Luke 10:25–37: Who first asks a question, where does it appear, and where is the final instruction? Which verses frame the story in 10:30–35?
Mark 1:9–11, 14–15: List every selected verse number. Which range lies between the selections? Describe that range in your own words.
John 6:1–5, 10–15: Locate the internal gap. Which speakers and food detail appear there? How does reading it change your understanding of the transition to verse 10?

Answer guidance
The legal expert's question begins at Luke 10:25. Jesus' closing instruction is at 10:37. Read 10:25–29 before the story and 10:36–37 after it to keep the exchange surrounding the narrative visible.
Selected verses: Mark 1:9, 10, 11, 14, 15. The internal gap is 1:12–13, where the text describes the wilderness episode. Changing the reference to 1:9–15 would produce a different selection.
The omitted range is John 6:6–9. Philip responds, Andrew speaks about a boy, and the food is identified as five barley loaves and two fish. Verse 10 then proceeds with seating the people. Reading the gap restores the conversation before the action; other observations may also be supported.
All descriptions are original paraphrases checked against the BSB. A correct location can support more than one careful explanation. No faith or performance score is assigned.
A blank reusable entry card
Complete only what your actual source supplies. “Not supplied” is a valid entry. Keep an added introduction and your own interpretation separate from the biblical text.
