Four filled anchor cards

Daniel: Four Anchors and Two Reading Routes
CardReferenceScene markerLeave blank
ADaniel 7:1Belshazzar, regnal year 1; Daniel’s dream.BCE year / month / day: __________
BDaniel 8:1Belshazzar, regnal year 3; a vision after an earlier one.BCE year / month / day: __________
CDaniel 5:1, 30Belshazzar’s feast; his death that night.Regnal year / converted date: __________
DDaniel 5:31–6:1Darius the Mede receives the kingdom; Darius appoints officials.Regnal year / converted date: __________

The number sixty-two in 5:31 is Darius’s age. It cannot fill the regnal-year blank. A blank means that these verses do not supply the requested information, not that you have failed to read well.

Two routes through these selected anchors

Book order: chapters 5 → 6 → 7 → 8. On the cards: C → D → A → B. Read the whole chapters to preserve their literary arrangement.

Scene-date review: compare 7:1 → 8:1 → 5:30 → 5:31–6:1. On the cards: A → B → C → D. Begin with Belshazzar’s stated first and third years, then revisit his death and Darius’s arrival. This compares only four selected settings. It is not a complete list of Daniel’s events.

Six locating exercises

Write a reference with every answer. You may use “not specified.”

  1. At 7:1, which ruler’s reign supplies the date, and which year is it? Answer: ____________________

  2. At 8:1, which year appears, and how is this vision related to a previous one? Answer: ____________________

  3. Find the king of the feast and the report of his death. Which verses supply them? Answer: ____________________

  4. What does Darius receive at 5:31? What does sixty-two describe? Answer: ____________________

  5. Put A–D in printed book order, then in the order of these scene markers. Why are the lists different? Answer: ____________________

  6. Which exact BCE dates or modern-event predictions can these four anchors alone establish? Answer: ____________________

Answer guidance

  1. 7:1 — Belshazzar, year 1. Both the ruler and year belong in the date field.

  2. 8:1 — Belshazzar, year 3. Daniel refers back to a previous vision. First and third years can be compared without inventing a month or day.

  3. 5:1 and 5:30. Belshazzar hosts the feast; the account reports his death that night. Neither verse supplies a regnal-year number.

  4. 5:31 — the kingdom; sixty-two is his age. Then 6:1 names Darius while describing appointments. An age is not the year of a reign.

  5. Book: C, D, A, B. Scene review: A, B, C, D. The visions are printed later while their own notices locate them in Belshazzar’s reign. A chapter number marks a location in the book, not elapsed time.

  6. None from these anchors alone. They give ancient scene markers, not a complete conversion table or names and dates of modern events. Keep those fields unfilled.

For each answer, choose: supported by the text / reread / not specified. These describe evidence in the answer, not your spiritual condition.
